The Journey of packaging production
Is this your first time ordering packaging production? We will guide you through the packaging process step by step, from design to implementation.
Let's start with a test: What type of customer are you?
We’ve identified the characteristics of our packaging clients and divided them into categories. Can you find yourself among them? Our packaging department has extensive experience with all types of requests. But some customer types are just a bit more fun for us to work with. Can you guess which ones?
The Experienced Veteran
This customer has extensive experience with packaging production and many completed projects behind them. They typically come with a specific request: box size, pre-prepared graphics, type of closure. They are usually interested in changing suppliers, speeding up production, or requesting a price quote. They don’t want to change the appearance or structure of the box, as they have a clear brief and vision.
The Veteran Innovator
A similar type to the experienced customer mentioned above, but they come with a request for innovation. They typically want to change the graphics and slightly transform the structure, often due to competitive or consumer pressure or because of a new product. They have a rough idea but are open to suggestions for something new.
The Awakened Standard
This customer has moderate or limited experience with packaging production. They often come with a slightly different idea, a sample from a competitor, or an image from the internet. They usually seek advice from our designers, explaining the box structure and proposing adjustments.
The Enthusiastic First-Timer
This customer has no experience with packaging production. They usually come with just a product and need a packaging solution for it. They leave the entire innovation process to our packaging design department.
This worked!
Here’s the answer to your guessing game. Our designers naturally enjoy creating packaging for first-time clients or innovators. They can incorporate the latest trends or technological innovations into their designs. However, their biggest satisfaction comes from working with Veterans, who, despite having an initial concept, often accept new packaging solutions.
Sure, it sometimes takes a lot of explaining, but then comes THE JOY when a customer returns and says: "I should have left it to you from the start. That change really helped us." (a customer from the Czech Republic, a spirits manufacturer, who prefers to remain anonymous).
What packaging clients often deal with
It’s often about the cost of production and changing packaging suppliers. Common issues include graphic changes, material changes, and structural adjustments due to new products or shifting consumer demand. There's also a noticeable increase in demand for eco-friendly materials. In packaging design, the focus is on improving the box’s user functionality (like opening), but especially on whether the packaging can be assembled and filled manually or automatically by the manufacturer.

Demand analysis
Depending on the type of customer, our packaging design department either works with specific requests or seeks new designs across different packaging categories. The task is to familiarize the customer with packaging types for their product, its structures, and propose the most suitable one in terms of protection, functionality, and cost. We also conduct packaging analysis for customers who already have a "clear" vision.
Thanks to new technologies at POINT CZ, packaging production has advanced significantly. What was once impossible to produce or could only be assembled manually can now be done automatically at a fraction of the cost. Designers regularly incorporate innovations that simplify assembly and save costs during the production process.
Visualization is the key
Once a customer selects one or more designs, a mockup is needed. The first thing our designers do is create a 3D model visualization of the box. In the past, it took at least three days to create a paper model for complex designs. Today, 3D models are ready in just a few hours.
Shelf animation
Graphic visualization on a 3D model is standard practice. A recent innovation is the visualization of product placement on store shelves. Customers can now see how their product will look in a store display or on a POS stand in a retail chain. This process focuses on the overall impression of the box’s graphics, as well as comparison with other products and how they appear side by side. The color scheme, font sizes, and construction type are adjusted to ensure the packaging is distinctive or unifying for a particular product line.
A model is essential
After selecting the construction type, paper mockups are created to give the customer a real spatial impression. Many clients only truly understand the weight, texture, and opening style once they hold the box in their hands, which is especially important for assembly. Graphic designers also appreciate having a physical model to better visualize where the graphics will be placed and how everything will align.
Manual or automated assembly
The most crucial aspect of packaging is its assembly and filling. We help clients decide whether to opt for a folded or glued package. Folded packaging is cheaper to produce but requires more manual assembly and filling. Glued packaging is more expensive but saves time and simplifies the assembly process.
Proofing and production application
After the graphic data is approved, a proof print is made. This is a proof sheet of the packaging’s flat graphic layout, allowing the customer to see the actual colors. After this, the packaging is produced and tested. Our designers regularly visit customers to help them implement the new packaging in their production processes.
