Innovations: Printing and Market Changes
The printing industry is constantly evolving, along with customer demands for speed, quality, and print variability. At POINT CZ, we have extensive experience in digital printing, particularly with HP Indigo technology, which has met our needs for many years. However, over time, it became clear that transitioning to a larger B2 format would provide our company with an additional competitive advantage.
We were looking for a machine that could handle both standard print jobs and packaging production, as well as personalized orders with quick turnaround times. Additionally, we wanted to expand material options while ensuring a more eco-friendly and efficient operation, explains Vladimír Sázavský, owner of POINT CZ.
Transition to Konica Minolta
Leaving our former partner HP and making a complete technology shift was not an easy decision, and we considered many factors. After evaluating several brands, we were convinced by Konica Minolta’s inkjet solution, the AccurioJet KM-1e. It combines high-speed B2-format printing with exceptional print quality. A significant advantage was the wide range of printable material weights (60–600 gsm) without the need for substrate pre-treatment (e.g., priming). Another key factor was the use of UV inks, which eliminate the need for varnishing and laminating, making the process more environmentally friendly. Lastly, the availability of a service center in Brno also played a crucial role in our decision.
Currently, more than half of our commercial print and packaging production is exported abroad. Many of our customers have been working with us for two decades, relying on our premium services and top-quality printing. Innovation, the latest technology, automation, and sustainability form the foundation of our printing house. Our goal is to meet even the most demanding requirements in industrial printing, calendar production, and packaging, adds Michal Sázavský, co-owner of POINT CZ.
AccurioJet KM-1e Installation and First Impressions
The first test prints amazed us with their immediate color saturation and sharp details. In a short time, we were able to verify consistent quality across different materials. Thanks to our team’s extensive experience in digital printing, we quickly optimized our workflow to maximize the new technology’s potential.
Before the actual installation, we had several meetings at our production facility in Medlov, where we discussed all necessary arrangements with Konica Minolta technicians. The installation itself was conducted professionally—Konica Minolta provided comprehensive technical support and training for adjusting our daily operations. The transition to full production was relatively swift, says Tomáš Blažek, Production Director at Medlov.
What Do We Print Most Often, and How Satisfied Are We?
The AccurioJet KM-1e is primarily used for jobs requiring fast turnaround and personalization. This includes catalog series, packaging prototypes, and high-volume standard print jobs such as brochures, catalogs, flyers, posters, and calendars. A significant portion of orders comes from our e-shop, point4me, but even our industrial customers are increasingly opting for digital printing.
In terms of operation and maintenance, the machine performs very reliably. We have regular weekly service intervals arranged with Konica Minolta. We also appreciate its ergonomic design and the simplicity of settings, notes Martin Hollý, Director of Digital Printing at POINT CZ.
Benefits of the New Technology
"Our main expectations were faster order processing, a wider range of materials, increased capacity per print due to the B2 format, and higher efficiency. The UV ink presents a major advantage, particularly in time savings and smoother workflow. Print sheets can be immediately processed in post-press. However, this also brought new challenges in planning orders and substrates, requiring more preparation time. The machine helps us meet growing customer demands for rapid production. Additionally, thanks to optimized ink consumption and seamless operation, we can better compete on price," clarifies Tomáš Blažek.
High Expectations and New Insights
We were pleasantly surprised by the print quality and color stability, which in many aspects matches offset printing. We also appreciate the built-in control mechanisms for print monitoring. The absence of lamination and varnishing shortens production time and reduces costs. Looking ahead, we plan to expand our packaging portfolio and offer more variable print solutions. One minor drawback we encountered with this machine is the RIP software—we expected higher performance in terms of user experience and color management capabilities. We would also welcome better support for JDF/JMF formats. We have provided this feedback to Konica Minolta and are actively working on solutions together, adds Martin Hollý.
Customer Feedback and New Opportunities
Customers especially appreciate the image quality and speed. We frequently receive positive feedback on the vivid colors and print stability. Many clients are pleasantly surprised that they can order both small and large print runs without worrying about long delivery times or high costs.
