Digital Printing with Inkjet Technology

The family of machines at the POINT CZ production plant in Medlov has grown again: with a new digital printing machine—the AccurioJet KM-1e from Konica Minolta.

Since 2011, we have been using HP INDIGO 7500 and 7800 machines for digital printing. They served us well, but rapidly growing demands for higher performance and quality determined that it was time for a change. The main goal of the change was primarily an advance in performance, production efficiency, higher print quality, color durability, and larger format. For our technicians, it means another technology, but for our customers, it's a huge step forward in the quality of digital printing and the range of print production services, said Martin Hollý, director of the online division at POINT CZ.

A NEWS ERA OF INKJET PRINTING BEGINS

We would like to introduce you to this revolutionary digital printing machine that meets the latest production demands. What are the advantages of this printing for the customer?

• Alternative to Offset Printing: The KM-1e digital machine represents a real alternative to traditional offset printing while maintaining comparable quality.
• High Productivity: Printing up to 3,000 sheets per hour in B2+ format. It prints at the same speed regardless of the number of colors used, which increases production efficiency. Work is easily managed using production workflow, allowing quick and easy addition of orders to the print queue.
• Wide Range of Materials: Printing on material with weights from 60 g/m² up to 600 g/m², including textured materials and thick cardboards.
• No Need for Lamination: Thanks to high-quality UV ink, there is no need to laminate printed materials, which speeds up production, reduces costs, and is environmentally friendly. Instant drying of the ink allows orders to be forwarded immediately after printing for further processing without unnecessary delays.
• High-Quality Ink: UV ink with high durability remains on the surface of the material and is cured by a UV lamp, ensuring excellent color stability and scratch resistance.
• Excellent Image Quality: The print dot is not visible; the print quality and its consistency rank among the highest on the digital printing market. Resolution of 1,200 × 1,200 dpi thanks to unique Konica Minolta 1800IS print heads provides sharp and detailed images. The machine ensures absolute consistency in paper feeding, print quality, and job repeatability.
• Economic Efficiency: Optimization of ink consumption and automatic job scheduling lead to reduced production costs and better prices for customers. The need for special papers and surface treatments is reduced, lowering real operating costs.
• Personalized Printing in Large Volumes: The ability to print large series with personalized content opens up new possibilities for offering additional services to our customers.

HOW DID THE INSTALLATION PROCEED?

Just like in 2022, when we replaced five machines at once, this time the customer did not notice the exchange at all. The installation schedule worked exactly like clockwork. First, we installed the hardware while orders were being printed on the old machines. Then came a quick exchange, adjustment, and testing. We immediately put the machine into full operation. We are proud that this very complex exchange did not cause any downtime in production. Thanks go not only to the experts from Konica Minolta, who helped with training and commissioning, but especially to our technicians and production specialists in Medlov. Installation, testing, and commissioning took place in record time. This was followed by training for salespeople so they could convey to customers the advantages of the new printing and the differences compared to the previous machines. It really is number one on the market, said Tomáš Blažek, director of the production plant in Medlov.

We believe that thanks to this machine, we at POINT CZ and Point4me can even better meet the new needs of our customers. Digital printing has so far been used mainly for online print orders from our e-shops Point4me.
